Directions From Train Stations

From 30th Street Railroad Station (Amtrak) (note: for fare and schedule information, phone 800-USA-RAIL or vist their website. Our offices are a 10-minute walk from this station. Exit the 30th Street Station at the 29th Street exit. Cross street and walk over the bridge going over the Schuykill River (you are on JFK Blvd., walking east from 29th Street to 20th street.). At the corner of 20th & JFK Blvd., turn left and walk one block (you'll be walking downhill) to corner of 20th & Arch Streets. PHS is on the northwest corner (see map).

From Suburban Station (Regional Rail note: for fare and schedule information, dial 215-580-7800 or visit www.septa.org). PHS is a 10-minute walk from Suburban Station. Suburban Station occupies an entire block between 16th & 17th Street and JFK Blvd. Exit to street level. Walk west to 20th & JFK Blvd. and then north one block to 20th & Arch Streets. PHS is on the northwest corner.

Directions from Philadelphia Airport

Philadelphia International Airport is eight miles from downtown Center City and has an excellent "Plane-to-Train" connection between the airport and downtown Philadelphia. At the airport, follow signs for trains to Philadelphia. (This is SEPTA's R1 Airport line. For schedule information, dial 215-580-7800 or visit SEPTA's website at www.septa.org). The train runs every 30 minutes and is a 20-minute ride. You can buy a ticket on the train. Get off at Suburban Station (see walking directions above).

If you are driving from the Airport, see directions below "From South." Taxi cabs from the airport charge a flat fee of $20 to Center City. Numerous airport shuttle services will take you to Center City. Information is at Ground Transportation desk at airport.

Driving Directions

There are a number of pay parking lots along Arch Street, as well as on-street parking (metered) parking.

FROM SOUTH: Take I-95 north. Follow signs for Central Phila./I-676. Follow I-676 to Callowhill Street Exit. Take Callowhill Street west to 12th Street (get in left lane). Turn left onto 12th Street. Turn right onto Arch Street. Stay on Arch Street. PHS is on the northwest corner of 20th & Arch.

FROM WEST: Take I-76 (Pennsylvania Turnpike) east to Exit 24 [Valley Forge]. Take Schuylkill Expwy (I-76) east to Central Philadelphia I-676 exit. You will be on I-676 for only a very short time. Take the 23rd Street Exit and go straight at the light. Continue straight for 3 blocks (you are on Winter Street but it isn't well marked) and then turn right onto 20th Street. PHS is at the northwest corner of 20th & Arch Streets (on your right).

FROM NEW YORK: Take New Jersey Tpke. to Exit 4. Take Rt. 73 north to Rt. 38. Take Rt. 38 west to US 30. Take US 30 west over Benjamin Franklin Bridge. On the Bridge, be in the lanes 3 or 4 and bear right as you come off the bridge and follow signs for Convention Center and Vine Street local. From Vine Street local, take a left onto 10th Street and stay on 10th to Arch Street. Turn right on to Arch and stay on Arch. PHS is at the northwest corner of 20th & Arch Streets.

FROM NORTH: Take I-95 South to I-676W. From I-676, take the Ben Franklin Parkway Exit. Take a right onto 22nd Street and a right onto the Ben Franklin Parkway. Take a right onto 20th Street. PHS is on the corner of 20th & Arch Streets (on your right).

FROM SOUTH JERSEY: Take I-76 over Walt Whitman Bridge. Go west on I-76 (Schuylkill Expwy.) to exit 39 (30th Street Station). Go one block to Market Street. Turn right. Go east on Market Street to 20th Street. Turn left onto 20th Street and go 2 blocks north to Arch. PHS is at the northwest corner of 20th & Arch Streets.

You can also take the Ben Franklin Bridge (follow directions "FROM NEW YORK"), or the Betsy Ross Bridge (follow directions "FROM NORTH to I-95 South).
